All-Star Merle Haggard Tribute Showcase
This September 27, 2025, there’s no better way to end the summer than joining Outpost BBQ in starting a new tradition with its first annual celebration of American music icons. This year’s Merle Haggard Tribute Showcase – featuring world-class musicians and a jaw-dropping, acre-sized work of art – will be held from 1–4 p.m. at Outpost BBQ at the Kerhonkytonk Roadhouse in Kerhonkson.
Inspired by Haggard’s line “the best of the free life is still yet to come,” the afternoon brings together an all-star group led by guitarist-vocalist Billy Thompson with the Roadhouse Revival Band, joined by The Lustre Kings, pedal steel legend Rusty Park, veteran fiddler Larry Packer, saxophonist Charles Fromer, keyboardist Frankie Keene, and special guest vocalists Lara Hope, Andrea Maddox, and Winona Barton-Ballentine. The performance unfolds on an outdoor bandshell with an open-air dance floor amid gorgeous country views.
The other main attraction will be a one-acre land-art portrait of Merle Haggard, conceived, illustrated, and precisely mowed by legendary Hudson Valley artist Roger Baker. Set amongst breathtaking views along the Rondout Creek, the work serves as the showcase signature attraction. Known for his monumental lawn portraits, Baker is a longtime friend of Outpost BBQ, designing our posters and gracing our venue with original paintings and illustrations.
The showcase also features an equestrian demonstration and dance with Holly Mulligan and Cassidy Martinez riding the Outpost’s two resident Quarter Horses, Driftin’ on a Breeze and Skip the Accent.
Between sets and throughout the afternoon, guests can enjoy house-smoked barbecue from our restaurant, along with beer and wine. There will be limited edition T-shirts for sale to commemorate the event.
The event is held outdoors on the spacious field next to the Roadhouse; in the event of rain, the entire program moves inside to the Roadhouse, which is equipped with a full sound system and an indoor dance floor. There is plenty of on-site parking, ADA access to the field, and guests are encouraged to bring chairs or a blanket. Leashed pets are welcome.
